A suspect has been apprehended following a series of burglaries involving multiple storage units in Chambers County. Authorities responded to reports of the crimes, which resulted in the theft from a total of 91 storage units located at various sites along FM 3180 in Baytown.
Through the use of security camera footage and automated license plate readers, deputies quickly identified a vehicle associated with the suspect. The following day, these technological tools further aided law enforcement in narrowing down their search to a specific area in Houston.
While patrolling this area, officers located the suspect’s vehicle at a local business and successfully arrested Rayfield Beal, a Houston resident. He now faces multiple burglary charges from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, as well as charges of evading arrest and assaulting a peace officer from the Houston Police Department, which arose during his apprehension.
Sheriff Brian Hawthorne commented on the case, stating, “This situation is a clear demonstration of how automated license plate readers play a crucial role in capturing criminals who venture into our communities to commit crimes. The combination of advanced technology and diligent police work enabled us to identify and apprehend the suspect within 24 hours of the initial report, effectively preventing further criminal activity.”
