Cedar Hill Shooting: Amazon Delivery Driver Injured, Suspect Arrested

An Amazon delivery driver is currently recuperating after being shot twice during her early morning shift in Cedar Hill, Texas. Local authorities have confirmed that an arrest related to the incident has been made, though the identity of the suspect has not yet been disclosed.

The incident took place on Monday, October 12, when Yirmar Martinez, an Amazon Flex driver, was delivering packages. While attempting to locate the front door at a residence on North Cedar Hill Road, she switched on her high beams and noticed a man brandishing a firearm.

Martinez recounted that she raised her Amazon vest to indicate her purpose, at which point the assailant displayed a package before uttering something in English that she could not comprehend. He then opened fire, striking her twice—one bullet grazed the top of her head and another hit her in the lower back.

In a panic, Martinez managed to drive away, but the assailant continued to shoot at her as she fled the scene.

Cedar Hill Police have confirmed the arrest linked to this shooting, although they have not disclosed the suspect’s name pending the filing of charges. Martinez provided a statement to the police on Thursday afternoon regarding her experience.

Originally from Venezuela, Martinez moved to Texas two years ago and works with Amazon Flex, a program that enables drivers to use their personal vehicles for deliveries. She mentioned that her vehicle remains with Cedar Hill Police as part of the investigation.

In response to the shooting, Amazon released a statement emphasizing their commitment to the safety of their delivery partners. The company has been in communication with Martinez to ensure she is aware of the support available and has pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation.
