Investigation Launched into Deadly Collision Between Two Cyclists Near Pilot Point

Two cyclists tragically lost their lives on Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on FM 455 East, just east of Fritcher Road in Denton County, Texas.

Authorities received multiple reports of the incident, prompting a swift response from the Pilot Point police at approximately 8:19 a.m. Officers from nearby law enforcement agencies also arrived to assist at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel from both the Pilot Point and Celina fire departments worked diligently to provide life-saving measures to the injured cyclists. One cyclist was transported to Celina Methodist Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The second cyclist was airlifted by CareFlite to Medical City Plano but also unfortunately passed away due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the collision.

In a statement, law enforcement referenced the Texas Transportation Code, which ensures that cyclists possess the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicle operators on public roads. The law mandates that cyclists traveling at slower speeds should ride as close to the right edge of the roadway as possible, while also permitting riders to travel two abreast within a single lane.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police yet to release further details regarding the vehicle involved or the identities of the cyclists.
