Seven years ago, Liz Barraza, a 29-year-old woman, lost her life in a tragic shooting while preparing for a garage sale at her home in Tomball, Texas. The incident, which occurred on January 26, left her family grappling with profound grief and a sense of incompleteness as they await justice.
On the day of the shooting, Barraza was shot four times and was pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m. Investigators have indicated that she was specifically targeted, yet her murder remains unsolved, a reality that has left her parents devastated. They had initially held hope that the case would be resolved quickly, but the passage of time has only deepened their sorrow. Crime Stoppers has stepped in, offering a $50,000 reward for any information that could help bring closure to the case.
In an emotional conversation, Liz’s father, Robert Nuelle, reflected on the unending pain of their loss. “At 1:40 p.m. January 26, she was pronounced dead,” he stated somberly. He described the fluctuating nature of their grief, saying, “There are times when it feels like it’s been five minutes, times when it feels like it’s been a year, and there are times it feels like it’s been forever.”
Liz’s mother, Rosemary Nuelle, expressed how the tragedy has transformed their lives, stating, “We are not the same people at all. We are totally different people.”
Andy Kahan from Crime Stoppers noted the collective disbelief that seven years have passed without a resolution. “We all thought this crime would be solved within weeks or months. None of us ever dreamed seven years later that we’d still be talking about it,” he said.
Robert Nuelle voiced the weight of their unresolved grief, stating, “We have justice that has not been served. It just weighs on us.” Investigators are working under the belief that Liz was targeted by someone who may have had a personal motive, with the shooter reportedly driving a dark-colored Nissan Frontier.
Rosemary Nuelle expressed her concerns about the nature of the crime, suggesting a possible connection to the perpetrator. “I think there’s a reason why it hasn’t been solved. I believe God and maybe Liz is protecting us. It’s a personal crime; we probably do know the people or person involved. Maybe I’m not strong enough to handle knowing it,” she remarked.
Adding to the urgency of their search for answers, Robert Nuelle revealed his own health struggles, stating, “I have stage 4 cancer. I don’t know how much time I have left. It could be a couple of months, it could be a couple of years. I sure would like to know who’s behind this before I go, and time for me could be running out.”
