The recent fire at Bar Peached, a well-known establishment on West 6th Street, has been officially classified as an accident, according to the Austin Firefighter Association.
The incident occurred early on May 31, when firefighters were alerted to the blaze at approximately 6:25 a.m. The flames had breached the roof of the bar, prompting emergency crews to respond swiftly. Pressler Street, located between 5th and 6th Streets, was closed to facilitate firefighting efforts. Fortunately, searches conducted in the building confirmed that no patrons or staff were present at the time, and the fire was declared under control by 6:51 a.m.
Despite the absence of injuries, the bar sustained significant damage, with a large section of its roof collapsing due to the fire’s intensity. The root cause has been identified as a malfunctioning refrigerator.
In light of the extensive damage, Bar Peached will remain closed indefinitely while fire officials continue their investigation into the incident.
