The festival had temporarily closed due to lightning and thunderstorms in the area, but organizers were able to resume operations after approximately one hour. Attendees were still able to view the match from alternative locations as festival staff kept a close watch on the evolving weather conditions.
As the storm approached, entry into the FIFA Fan Festival was suspended. Dallas police and festival officials advised those waiting outside to return to their vehicles, while those already inside were instructed to shelter in place. The gates reopened around 5:15 p.m., allowing a surge of fans—many clad in Mexico jerseys—to enter the festival just in time for the highly anticipated Round of 16 match.
With kickoff nearing, festival organizers announced that the main stage had reached its capacity. Fans were encouraged to enjoy the match and partake in festival activities from other viewing areas throughout Fair Park while staying updated via the festival’s official social media channels.
Despite the inclement weather, supporters of the Mexican national team began arriving at the festival hours before the match. Reports indicated that previous viewing parties had also reached full capacity, with fans eager to secure their spots in the pavilion.
The weather delay coincided with severe thunderstorms sweeping through North Texas, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch that remained in effect until 10 p.m. on Sunday. The storms posed risks of large hail, damaging winds, and frequent lightning strikes.
Looking ahead, the match between Mexico and England is set to kick off at 7 p.m. on Sunday. While festival activities have resumed, organizers urged attendees to remain vigilant and monitor official social media channels for any further weather updates.
