The city of Austin has officially opened the application period for $23 million in grants aimed at supporting the local arts and music community. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to fostering creativity and enhancing the cultural landscape.
Angela Means, director of the Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment office, emphasized the importance of this funding in a recent press release. “Today’s launch reflects how deeply the City values both the creative community and the voices that continue to help shape these programs,” she stated.
The grants are categorized into four distinct programs: the Live Music Fund, Elevate, Heritage Preservation, and Thrive. Eligible applicants can request funding ranging from $5,000 to $250,000, depending on the specific program. The financial resources for these grants are sourced from hotel occupancy taxes.
“These HOT-funded grants are not just awards, they are a reinvestment of visitor dollars back into the artists, musicians, cultural organizations, and heritage stewards who make Austin a sought-out destination,” Means added.
Grant awards can be allocated for either one or two years, with funding set to commence in January. Recipients can utilize the funds for a variety of purposes, including creative production, public programming, operational and administrative needs, cultural events, media and digital arts projects, as well as dance, movement-based work, and literary arts.
To assist applicants, the city is offering workshops, open office hours, and opportunities for one-on-one consultations with ACME staff. Additionally, informational videos are available online in both English and Spanish. More details can be found on the city’s official website.
