The Austin Police Department is actively seeking assistance in identifying a suspect linked to a spate of thefts occurring in downtown Austin.
Authorities have reported that the suspects appear to be targeting men exiting bars in the downtown area, particularly in the Warehouse District, during the early hours between midnight and 2:30 a.m. The modus operandi involves the suspects befriending their victims before stealing their cell phones.
Following the thefts, the suspects engage in illicit activities using the victims’ cell phones, which often include unauthorized access to their bank accounts. Currently, police have confirmed 14 incidents associated with the same group of thieves.
Individuals with any information regarding this case are encouraged to provide tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. Tips can be submitted online at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information that leads to an arrest.
