A 19-year-old man from Dallas is facing multiple felony charges following a traffic stop that revealed the presence of modified firearms and illegal substances. The individual, identified as Kaden Keshaun Williams, was stopped by DeSoto police due to an expired vehicle registration.
The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. when officers stopped a black Chevrolet Impala with tags that had been out of date since February. Upon approaching the vehicle, law enforcement officers detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside. They instructed Williams to exit the car.
According to police reports, Williams attempted to flee the scene but was quickly subdued by the officers. While being handcuffed, he allegedly resisted arrest and kicked one of the officers, resulting in a minor injury. He was ultimately secured in a patrol vehicle.
Two adult passengers in the car were also detained during the incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately two ounces of marijuana, THC vape cartridges, and three handguns. Authorities discovered that one of the firearms had been reported stolen, while two others had been modified. Notably, one handgun was equipped with a “Glock switch,” a device that converts a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic weapon.
One of the passengers was arrested due to an outstanding warrant related to unlawful weapon possession, while the other passenger was released at the scene.
Williams is charged with several offenses, including second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, third-degree felony assault on a peace officer, third-degree felony possession of prohibited weapons, and state jail felony possession of a criminal instrument. He is also facing misdemeanor charges for resisting arrest and unlawful carrying of a firearm.
The DeSoto Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
