A tragic accident in Arlington has claimed the life of a 79-year-old woman while a 66-year-old driver sustained injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when their vehicle collided with a tree on New York Avenue.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 11:03 a.m. to the scene located in the 2600 block of New York Avenue, as reported by the Arlington Police Department. Initial investigations revealed that a 2019 Cadillac CT5 veered off the road and struck a tree situated in the median.
The elderly passenger was transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. The driver, meanwhile, was also taken to the hospital, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver recounted to law enforcement that she was heading northbound on New York Avenue when another vehicle abruptly entered her lane, prompting her to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision. This evasive maneuver resulted in her losing control of the vehicle.
The Arlington Police are continuing their investigation into the crash. The identity of the victim will be disclosed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once family members have been informed.
