Fatal East Orem Drive Crash: Woman Dies as Driver Faces Intoxication Charges

An adult woman lost her life, and two others were hospitalized following a serious collision involving two vehicles in southeast Houston late Sunday evening.

Details of the Incident:

The tragic crash occurred at the intersection of East Orem Drive and Dawn View Lane in the Minnetex area, as reported by Sergeant Garcia of the Houston Police Department. Witnesses indicated that a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound on East Orem at a high speed when it collided with a Honda Accord that was exiting a residential neighborhood.

The female driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers in her vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The driver of the Jeep, along with a juvenile passenger, emerged from the incident unscathed.

Authorities noted that the Jeep driver exhibited signs of intoxication at the scene and was subsequently assessed by drug recognition experts at a separate location. Facing a charge of reckless manslaughter, the severity of the charge could be escalated to intoxication manslaughter as the investigation continues. Notably, the driver has no prior record of reckless driving or DUI offenses.

Outstanding Questions:

As of now, officials have not disclosed the identities of either the driver of the Jeep or the deceased woman. Additionally, the nature of the relationship between the Jeep driver and the juvenile passenger remains unspecified.

This information was provided by Sergeant Garcia, who is part of the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Houston Police Department.
