CenterPoint Energy has activated its Emergency Operations Center on Monday morning in anticipation of potential impacts from Invest 97L. The weather system is expected to bring significant rainfall, localized flooding, and strong winds to Southeast Texas starting Tuesday.
In preparation for the approaching storm, frontline crews are conducting inspections of power lines and substations while also trimming trees to mitigate risks associated with severe weather.
Residents in the Houston area should brace for heavy rain and the possibility of flash flooding as Invest 97L nears the coastline. CenterPoint Energy is proactively working to fortify the region’s power grid ahead of the storm.
CenterPoint Energy has confirmed that their Emergency Operations Center is actively monitoring the situation as it unfolds. Weather models are being closely tracked to assess the evolving conditions associated with Invest 97L.
Officials have indicated that the weather system could deliver several inches of rain, increasing the risk of localized flooding and strong winds in the Greater Houston area starting Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday.
In response to these threats, CenterPoint is mobilizing its workforce and contractors to swiftly address any potential power outages or disruptions in gas service.
Jason Fabre, Vice President of Special Response & Distribution Operations and Incident Commander for CenterPoint Energy, stated, “Our Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the potential impacts from Invest 97L to the Greater Houston area Tuesday and Wednesday. We have activated our preparedness plans, and our crews and contractors stand ready to respond to any service impacts for our customers. We are closely monitoring the weather models as conditions continue to evolve and urge our customers to stay alert in anticipation of quickly changing weather conditions.”
CenterPoint personnel are taking proactive measures across the service area to ensure that equipment and infrastructure are ready for the storm. This includes:
- Inspecting power lines and electric substations throughout Greater Houston to identify and address vulnerabilities.
- Local crews are trimming trees and clearing hazardous vegetation near power lines to minimize damage from high winds.
- CenterPoint’s meteorology team is monitoring the storm 24/7 to adapt response efforts as needed.
- Officials are coordinating with local government leaders and emergency management partners to ensure a comprehensive response.
