A 21-year-old man from Fort Worth has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing incident involving his cousin. The suspect, Jaykel Vanegas-Martinez, was arrested on Sunday after confessing to the crime, according to an arrest affidavit.
The incident took place on August 29, when police received a call around 2:45 a.m. indicating that Vanegas-Martinez had admitted to stabbing his cousin. Upon arriving at the suspect’s apartment, authorities discovered the victim’s body, which showed multiple stab wounds to her neck and biceps. A blood-stained knife was recovered near the scene.
Officers later located Vanegas-Martinez in a shopping center parking lot on East Lancaster Avenue, where he was found wearing a shirt stained with blood and exhibiting injuries to his arm. In his statement to the police, he revealed that he had smoked crack cocaine prior to the attack and claimed that his cousin pleaded for him to stop as he continued to stab her.
Vanegas-Martinez has been charged with murder and is currently held at the Tarrant County Jail.
