In a crucial advancement in the investigation surrounding the tragic flooding at Camp Mystic, Texas Rangers have executed 14 search warrants following a judge’s approval. This inquiry focuses on the camp’s management and their actions leading up to and during the catastrophic event that occurred on July 4, 2025.
The search warrants target the preparation and response of Camp Mystic’s leadership in relation to the flooding. Authorities suspect that leaders at the camp may have committed serious offenses, including manslaughter and child endangerment. Investigators are particularly interested in retrieving phone records from Edward Eastland, the camp’s director, along with other officials involved.
The Texas Rangers initiated their investigation in March 2026, aiming to ascertain the extent of negligence that may have contributed to the disaster that claimed the lives of 27 individuals, including 25 campers and two counselors. The legal documents reveal that the Rangers are seeking extensive phone data from Eastland, covering the period from July 3 to October 17, 2025. This data includes text messages, emails, photographs, location tracking, search histories, and any deleted materials.
Earlier this year, members of the Eastland family, who own Camp Mystic, provided testimony to a Texas Legislative committee examining the events of the deadly flood. The committee’s findings indicated that the camp lacked the mandated written emergency and evacuation plans required by state law. The search warrant affidavit references this report to create a timeline of communications and actions taken by camp leadership during the crisis.
In response to the developments, the Heavens 27 Foundation, representing some of the victims’ families, expressed their determination to seek accountability. Their statement pointed out that the warrants reflect potentially criminal decisions made by camp leadership, emphasizing that 27 girls should still be alive today.
The Kerr County District Clerk’s Office confirmed that seven of the search warrants were directed at members of the Eastland family, underscoring the gravity of the investigation. As the legal proceedings unfold, the focus remains on uncovering the truth behind the decisions that led to this heartbreaking tragedy.
