A tragic incident unfolded in Flower Mound, Texas, where three family members were discovered dead in an apparent double homicide and suicide. The victims have been identified as 65-year-old Carlos Shelton, 63-year-old Elida Shelton, and their 27-year-old son, Brian Shelton. Family members suggest that financial difficulties, particularly stemming from medical expenses, may have contributed to the devastating event.
On September 23, at approximately 10:45 a.m., local police conducted a welfare check at the family home located on Sunrise Circle. Authorities were prompted to intervene after two residents failed to show up for work and family members found themselves unable to contact them.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the three deceased individuals, each exhibiting apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators believe that Carlos Shelton may have fatally shot both his wife and son before turning the gun on himself. The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, though a definitive motive has yet to be established.
Jose Zamarippa, who is married to the couple’s daughter, revealed that Carlos Shelton had been struggling with significant medical issues, leading to mounting bills. “I know he had a lot of medical bills, and half of the stuff he paid was going to that,” Zamarippa stated. He expressed concern that the pressures of high expenses may have overwhelmed Carlos, contributing to the tragic outcome.
Zamarippa noted that Carlos had recently exhibited signs of withdrawal and was not his usual self prior to the incident. He shared that Brian Shelton had just completed training to become a ministry leader at his church, highlighting the family’s commitment to community and faith.
In light of this heartbreaking event, Zamarippa emphasized the importance of seeking professional help during challenging times. “If there’s something wrong, always reach out to someone and let them know what’s happening. It’s vital to speak out because what happened here shouldn’t have happened,” he urged.
