20 Year Old Houston Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting at Birthday Celebration

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred during a birthday party in southeast Houston over two years ago.

Joshua Rodriguez was arrested on Monday and faces charges tied to the December 17, 2023, incident that resulted in the death of 67-year-old Filiberto Puente. In addition, a girl was injured in the shooting.

According to police reports, the shooting took place at a residence on Juliabora Street near Winkler Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Puente deceased and a young girl who had sustained a gunshot wound to her leg. She was subsequently treated at a local hospital and has since been released.

Investigators revealed that the incident unfolded during a large birthday gathering where a dispute erupted, escalating into gunfire that left both the man and the girl injured. Following their investigation, authorities identified Rodriguez as a suspect in the case.

Rodriguez has been booked into the Harris County Jail, although his bail amount has yet to be determined.
