The Federal Aviation Administration has announced a ground delay program for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport due to adverse weather conditions, specifically low cloud ceilings. This measure is expected to impact flights arriving from across the United States.
The delay, which began on Sunday, is anticipated to continue through early Monday morning, with flights operating under restricted runway configurations. Currently, average delays are reported at approximately 66 minutes, while some flights may experience delays exceeding two hours.
According to the FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center, the ground delay program specifically affects flights departing from the contiguous United States destined for Austin. The primary concern leading to these delays is the low cloud ceilings, which have necessitated the use of Runway 36L for arrivals and Runway 36R for departures.
