The assault charges against a Missouri City police officer and former candidate for Houston mayor have been officially dropped. The decision, recorded in court documents on Thursday, comes after prosecutors determined that the allegations could not be substantiated beyond a reasonable doubt.
Robin Williams, the officer in question, was arrested in 2023 after accusations surfaced that she had assaulted her live-in boyfriend using her police-issued baton and taser. These allegations emerged shortly after she announced her candidacy for mayor.
Prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss the case, citing insufficient evidence to support the claims made against Williams. While specific reasons for the dismissal were not disclosed, it remains possible for prosecutors to refile charges in the future if they choose to do so.
In a previous interview, Williams acknowledged that she and her boyfriend had experienced difficulties in their relationship, but she firmly denied the allegations of violence. “I did not do what he’s accusing me of doing on December 31. I did not strike him,” she stated.
Despite the legal challenges, Williams continued her campaign for mayor, although she was ultimately unsuccessful in the election.
Following her arrest, Williams was placed on administrative leave from the police department, and it is currently unclear whether she remains employed there.
