The Houston Texans secured their first victory of the season with a commanding 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans, marking the end of an arduous winless streak. Quarterback C.J. Stroud was instrumental in this triumph, contributing two total touchdowns to the team’s performance.
With this win, the Texans improved their record to 1-4, breaking a four-game losing streak. This victory also ended their winless run against the Titans for the second consecutive season.
Defensive Dominance
The Texans’ defense set a formidable tone early in the game, responding effectively after Tennessee’s initial field goal. Houston forced two turnovers, including a crucial fumble recovery and an interception. Notably, Will Anderson Jr. played a key role, recording three of the Texans’ four sacks. Following their opening drive, the Titans struggled to advance the ball, ultimately finishing with a season-low of 187 total yards and failing to score after the first quarter.
At halftime, the Texans led 12-3, thanks to four field goals by kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn. The second half saw Houston maintain control of the game, limiting the Titans’ offensive opportunities. Stroud capped a lengthy drive in the third quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 19-3. A pivotal moment in that drive occurred when Stroud evaded pressure and connected with wide receiver Kayshon Boutte for a critical 23-yard sideline catch.
Injury Concerns
However, the win was not without its challenges, as the Texans lost running back David Montgomery to a groin injury in the second quarter, and he did not return. Safety Jalen Pitre also exited the game late due to a shoulder injury, leaving uncertainty surrounding their conditions.
The Texans will aim to build on this victory as they move forward, while the Titans continue their search for their first win of the season, now standing at 0-5.
