A grieving mother is calling for justice following the tragic shooting death of her 17-year-old son inside an apartment in northeast Harris County. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening, leaving family and friends in shock.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of Malik Williams, who was shot in an apartment located along North Sam Houston Parkway East, close to Vickery Drive and near George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Malik’s mother, Raina Dudley, expressed her heartbreak upon receiving news of her son’s death. “The first thing that came to my mind when I heard my baby had been shot, I broke down right then and there,” she said. She is seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding her son’s murder, asking, “We just want to know what happened, why it happened, what was the reason.”
Dudley described Malik as a humorous and lively teenager who could brighten any room. She emphasized that her son was not one to get into trouble, and she struggles to comprehend why anyone would want to harm him.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. on the day of the incident. Dudley shared that Malik was visiting his father when he was shot in the living room, where his father, his father’s girlfriend, and her daughter were present at the time.
Reports indicate that Malik had stepped outside before returning approximately 20 minutes later. Dudley recounted being informed that her son ran into the apartment, followed closely by two assailants who shot him. “They said Malik came running in the house, the dudes came running into the house behind Malik and shot him,” she explained, adding that her son pleaded for his life before the fatal shot was fired.
Investigators have disclosed that Malik’s father saw two Black males wearing dark hoodies standing at the apartment door before they fled the scene. As of now, the authorities have not provided a detailed description of the suspects, and no arrests have been made.
Homicide detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward.
In memory of Malik, his family is organizing a balloon release on Saturday, October 17, at 5 P.M. at 5300 N. Sam Houston Parkway East, as they honor his life and persist in their pursuit of justice.
