Crystal Beach Man Charged with Girlfriend's Murder, Claims Suicide in Shocking Twist

A man from Crystal Beach has been charged with murder following the death of his girlfriend, which he initially claimed was a suicide. This incident has raised significant concerns and led to an ongoing investigation by local authorities.

On October 17, Galveston County officials responded to a report of a woman who had allegedly shot herself at a residence. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 74-year-old Barbara Barraque suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest.

The woman’s boyfriend, 71-year-old Robert Brown, reportedly informed the authorities that the injury was self-inflicted. However, investigators from the county sheriff’s office found evidence that contradicted Brown’s assertion, indicating that Barraque had likely been shot by another individual.

Brown was taken into custody on October 23, less than a week after Barraque’s tragic death. He now faces a murder charge and is being held in jail on a bond set at $400,000.

As the investigation continues, further details regarding the case have yet to be disclosed.
