HOUSTON – Residents can expect a refreshing change in the weather this Sunday, with conditions featuring mostly sunny skies and a drop in humidity. Afternoon temperatures are projected to range from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
The weekend commenced with a slight decrease in temperatures compared to the record-breaking highs experienced on Friday, which reached the mid-80s. Sunday morning will greet Houstonians with clear skies and light winds, allowing temperatures to dip into the 40s, a typical occurrence for January.
This evening, the clarity of the skies across southeast Texas will provide an excellent opportunity to witness the first supermoon of the year, known as the wolf moon. This astronomical event occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than usual. The full moon peaked at 4:03 am on Saturday, and there are two additional supermoons scheduled for November and December of this year.
High pressure remains dominant over the area, ensuring dry weather and ample sunshine throughout the weekend. Gentle breezes will accompany the low humidity, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities, including tailgating.
Looking ahead to the week, temperatures are set to rise again, particularly by Monday and into Tuesday. A southerly flow will push temperatures back into the 70s and low 80s, potentially leading to more record highs in Houston. This trend follows a month that has already seen ten days with temperatures reaching 80 degrees or higher.
Nights will continue to be mild, and the forecast remains dry until later in the week, when a front is expected to arrive, bringing cooler air just in time for the Houston Marathon weekend.
