The Lone Star Animal Welfare League, a non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare in Montgomery County, is reaching out to the community for support as it faces operational challenges. For nearly twenty years, the league has successfully spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped close to 12,000 dogs and cats, significantly improving the lives of these animals.
One of the key resources that allowed the league to expand its impact was a mobile van, which enabled them to provide services directly to underserved areas. Unfortunately, this mobile unit is no longer in service, creating a financial burden on the organization. Despite these challenges, the league is committed to offering low-cost spaying and neutering options for pet owners, relying on partnerships with veterinary professionals and a subsidized rescue rate.
Laura McConnell, president of the Lone Star Animal Welfare League, highlighted the growing issue of stray animals in the region, particularly in areas like New Caney, Splendora, and Porter. The organization is determined to continue its mission but needs the community’s assistance to sustain its affordable surgical services.
