A 17-year-old has been taken into custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday night in east Harris County.
The tragic event unfolded on Woodforest Boulevard, near Normandy Street, at approximately 8 p.m. A 57-year-old man, later identified as Rayford Howard, was crossing the street toward an apartment complex when he was struck by a white pickup truck that failed to stop.
The pickup truck continued eastward on Woodforest Boulevard after the collision, leaving the scene. Unfortunately, Howard was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
On Sunday, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that the suspect, identified as Benjamin Lira, has been charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid. It has been confirmed that Lira was out on bond for a prior DWI charge at the time of the incident.
As of now, further details surrounding the hit-and-run are not available.
