Authorities have apprehended two women from Texas for allegedly utilizing a drone and hollowed-out plastic crow decoys to smuggle drugs and cellphones into a federal prison located in Louisiana.
The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Melanie Jean Worthington from Joshua and 41-year-old Kassy Marie Cole from Hurst, claimed they were hired for $40,000 to carry out the operation. They were intercepted by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office before they could deliver the contraband.
The delivery involved the use of a drone to drop plastic crow decoys that were filled with illegal items onto the grounds of the undisclosed federal facility.
Worthington faces charges related to bringing contraband into a penal institution as well as possession of methamphetamine and marijuana with the intent to distribute. In addition, Cole is charged with similar offenses, including possession of methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana for distribution. Authorities also noted that Cole had an outstanding warrant at the time of her arrest.
