The Fort Worth Police Department has released body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that occurred last week in a neighborhood setting. This dramatic incident took place in the River Oaks area when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call.
According to Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia, the suspect, 33-year-old Alejandro Serrano, was shot after he disregarded police commands and advanced on the officers while armed. Serrano is currently hospitalized and remains in police custody. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the officers or bystanders during the confrontation.
Details surrounding the incident indicate that Serrano fired approximately 30 rounds in the vicinity before police arrived. Two handguns were recovered from him at the time of his arrest. It has been confirmed that his actions were not directly related to the initial domestic disturbance call.
During a news conference, Chief Garcia discussed the ongoing investigation and the events leading up to the shooting. Serrano faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and deadly conduct.
The encounter unfolded shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday when officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Bonita Drive. A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured the scenario, although the video was stopped before the shooting occurred.
Officers instructed Serrano to drop his weapon, but he failed to comply, prompting one officer to fire at him. Immediate medical assistance was provided until paramedics arrived, and Serrano was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
