Confirmed Cause of Death Revealed for Houston River Oaks Couple Behind Traveler's Table

The medical examiner’s office has officially determined the causes of death for a couple from River Oaks, Houston, who owned the restaurant Traveler’s Table. This tragic incident has been classified as a murder-suicide.

In the findings released, Matthew Mitchell’s death has been ruled a suicide, while his wife, Thy Mitchell, has been classified as a homicide victim. Both were found with gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, their two young children, 8-year-old Maya and 4-year-old Maxwell, were also killed, although the official details regarding their cause and manner of death are still pending. Authorities believe they were shot as well.

The shocking event took place at the family’s home on Kingston Street, near Avalon Place, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on a recent Monday. Initial police investigations indicated that Matthew Mitchell fatally shot his wife and children before turning the gun on himself.

Matthew and Thy Mitchell were not only known for their family life but were also recognized in the community as the owners of the Montrose-based restaurants, Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart.
