The Keller Police Department has issued a warning regarding the dangerous use of e-bikes, following numerous incidents involving young riders. The department shared dashcam footage showing several teenagers recklessly speeding and evading law enforcement on e-bikes along Johnson Road.
In light of these events, Keller PD is urging parents to educate their children about the regulations governing e-bike usage. Key points include the requirement for riders to wear helmets if they are under 16 years of age, and maintaining a speed limit of 15 mph on trails.
The department’s video highlights violations of traffic laws by these young riders, demonstrating the need for increased awareness and compliance with safety measures. Keller Police also emphasize that e-bike riders must be at least 15 years old, and they are prohibited from wearing headphones or earbuds while riding.
Additionally, it is important to note that e-bikes differ from e-motorcycles, which require a specific license and are not permitted on trails. The Keller Police Department is committed to promoting safe riding practices to ensure the well-being of all road users.
