HOUSTON – Residents can anticipate daily showers and thunderstorms from Saturday through Tuesday, as a wave of tropical moisture is set to move into the area.
The weather today featured high temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s, accompanied by steamy humidity throughout Houston.
Spotty thunderstorms made an appearance on Friday, bringing brief but heavy downpours. Fortunately, these storms are expected to move rapidly, minimizing the risk of flooding. By sunset, the storms should dissipate, allowing for drier conditions for evening plans.
As the weekend approaches, deeper moisture from the Gulf will lead to increased cloud cover and a higher likelihood of rain. The chances for heavier rainfall are anticipated to rise compared to Friday.
From Saturday through Tuesday, residents should prepare for intermittent showers and thunderstorms. While rain will not be continuous, localized street flooding may occur due to repeated downpours, with Monday showing the highest risk for substantial rainfall.
In terms of tropical activity, the current conditions are relatively stable. Factors such as El Niño and Saharan dust are contributing to a calm tropical atmosphere, characterized by high wind shear and dry air. As a result, the National Hurricane Center forecasts a quiet week ahead across the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico.
Although the tropics are calm for the moment, it’s important to remain vigilant as the peak of hurricane season doesn’t arrive until September 10th and lasts until the end of November, leaving room for potential developments.
