Family Seeks Justice Six Months After Tragic Hit and Run in NW Harris County

A family is actively seeking justice nearly six months after Michael Shannon lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in northwest Harris County. August 2 would have marked Michael’s 20th birthday, a poignant reminder of their ongoing search for answers.

Michael’s family has expressed their frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, as the driver responsible for the tragic accident remains at large. They are determined to continue their quest for justice in his memory.

Michael’s adoptive sister, Jacqueline Petrabla, reflected on the unfairness of the situation, stating, “I feel like he got shorted, and it wasn’t fair to him. All he was doing was walking with his friends during the Super Bowl halftime. It’s really hard right now. Today he’s going to want me to be doing what I’m doing. It was his birthday today. We got a birthday cake for him and will go ahead and celebrate that way. It’s all we can do.”

The incident occurred on February 8, around 8:30 p.m., coinciding with Super Bowl Sunday. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Michael and another individual were walking along Jones Road near Mills Road when a silver Toyota RAV4 struck them.

While investigators noted that the two men did not yield the right of way, the driver did not stop and fled the scene. Michael was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, while the other individual involved was hospitalized and is now in stable condition.

Jacqueline hopes that sharing Michael’s story will generate new leads that could assist in resolving the case. “We know the outcome if there’s nothing for whoever did that. I’m praying justice comes forward,” she said, expressing her deep desire for closure.
