HOUSTON – Today’s temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s, with humidity driving the heat index to nearly 105 degrees. While an isolated storm may form later in the afternoon, the majority of neighborhoods are likely to remain dry.
The heat index is approaching dangerous levels, with the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the late afternoon and evening commute. Any storms that do occur could bring brief heavy rainfall, strong winds, and frequent lightning.
In addition to the local weather concerns, a significant smoke plume originating from wildfires in the Pacific Northwest is spreading across much of the United States. Upper-level winds are transporting this smoke, resulting in hazier skies, although it is expected to remain elevated and not directly affect ground-level air quality in Houston.
