Tragic Dallas Pedestrian Fatality: SUV Collision Sends Victim Into Waymo Vehicle

A pedestrian has tragically lost his life following an accident in Dallas on Friday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Maple Avenue, where the man was struck by an SUV and subsequently thrown into the path of a Waymo vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene located at 4500 Maple Avenue shortly after the incident. Bystanders were providing assistance to the victim, who was then transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to police reports, the man was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was hit by the SUV, which was heading southwest on Maple Avenue. The impact was significant enough to propel him into the Waymo vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time of the accident.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. A spokesperson for Waymo confirmed that they are engaging with first responders regarding the incident.

“The safety of our riders and other road users is our top priority. We are deeply saddened by what happened and our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends. We are in touch with first responders and grateful for their quick response last evening,” the Waymo representative stated.

While the Waymo vehicle detected the pedestrian and slowed down, the unfortunate sequence of events resulted in the man colliding with the left rear of the self-driving car.

The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed as investigations continue.
