Authorities in Houston report that a burglary suspect lost his life during a police chase in the Heights area early Sunday morning. The incident unfolded after the suspect was observed attempting to break into vehicles.
Details indicate that around 4 a.m. on Saturday, security personnel at an apartment complex on West 11th Street alerted police to a man burglarizing cars.
The suspect, who was driving a vehicle lacking license plates, concealed himself in the parking garage until law enforcement arrived. As an officer entered the garage, the suspect exited, reportedly flashing a peace sign before abruptly turning off his headlights and accelerating away.
Witnesses report that the suspect sped along West 11th Street towards Nicholson Street, where he collided with an elevated section of the roadway, resulting in the vehicle overturning. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
At this time, the identity of the suspect remains unknown.
