Fort Worth Man Receives Life Sentence for 2025 Murder Case

A man from Fort Worth has been sentenced to life in prison following his conviction for murder in a case that shocked the local community. Steven Black, 48, was found guilty by a Tarrant County jury for the brutal killing of 50-year-old Susan Watkins.

The incident occurred on July 9, 2025, when Black assaulted Watkins in the 900 block of South Jennings Avenue. Reports indicate that he forcefully threw her to the ground and proceeded to stomp on her head multiple times. In a further act of violence, he threw rocks at her head before leaving her body in a dumpster.

Watkins was subsequently transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The severity of the crime and the evidence presented led the jury to deliver a life sentence for Black, ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life behind bars.
