An armed witness intervened during a bank robbery in Cedar Hill, Texas, shooting the suspect who was allegedly threatening employees with a knife. The witness is fully cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation unfolds.
On August 31, at approximately 9 a.m., Cedar Hill Police responded to reports of a robbery in progress at a Chase Bank located on N. Highway 67. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a man had entered the bank armed with a knife, demanding cash from the staff.
According to police reports, the armed witness fired their weapon, striking the suspect. The individual fled the bank but was later located by police, who administered life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the suspect was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. Remarkably, there were no injuries reported among bank employees or customers during the incident.
The witness who discharged their firearm is actively working with Cedar Hill Police, and it has been confirmed that no shots were fired by responding officers during the event.
Key details regarding the identities of both the suspect and the witness remain undisclosed, and the exact number of shots fired by the witness is still unknown.
Damien Cannon, a bystander who witnessed the event from across the street, reported hearing gunfire outside the bank. He stated, “Outside. They rung out. Literally right in front of the bank.”
Additional witnesses captured footage of the suspect on the ground and a vehicle being towed in connection with the incident. Cannon observed a man with his hands raised approaching the police and noted that multiple individuals appeared to have been detained as officers interviewed those present to ascertain who had fired the shots.
Cedar Hill Police have informed the FBI’s Dallas Office, which will lend support in the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, Chase Bank has not announced when their branch will resume normal operations.
