The family of Ruler Bailey, a murder victim from 2017, continues to seek justice nearly nine years after his tragic death. Bailey, who was just 21 years old, was fatally shot following an argument at an apartment complex on Springdale Road near Manor Road on March 15, 2017.
Since that day, his loved ones have been grappling with their loss and are determined to find closure. Ruler’s sister, Dyamond Bailey, expressed her deep desire for justice, emphasizing the impact her brother had on those around him. “He is somebody that was loved and still is to this day. I don’t want his memory to die, or people to forget about him,” she stated.
Matthew Kennon, Ruler’s father, shared heartfelt memories of his son, recalling how Ruler supported him during difficult times. “Being around Ruler, and when I got sick, he helped me get well… I know he’s not here physically, but mentally, he’s with me every day,” Kennon reflected.
Dyamond revealed that the case currently resides in the Austin Police Department’s cold case unit. She believes she may know who is responsible for her brother’s death, describing the suspect as someone who was frequently around Ruler. “They said they have a lot of evidence, but they want somebody to come forward and to speak and say like, ‘these people did it,'” she added, highlighting the need for more information to advance the investigation.
Ruler’s family fondly remembers him as a loving individual who brought joy to their lives. “He was just loving, amazing, always dancing, smiling, singing. He was a perfect big brother in my eyes and all of his siblings’ eyes. We all love him truly dearly,” Dyamond shared, expressing gratitude to those who assisted Ruler when he was taken to the hospital.
In their ongoing quest for justice, the family is urging anyone with information regarding Ruler’s murder to come forward. “Somebody out there that actually knows something, say something,” Kennon implored. Dyamond echoed this sentiment, stating, “If you know something, please come forward. It’s been going on, it’s almost ten years, and we really want justice.”
The Austin Police Department has been contacted for updates on the case, but a response is still pending.
