KYLE, Texas – An investigation into a stolen vehicle has led to the arrest of an Austin man and a teenager in Kyle, according to local law enforcement.
On June 22, at approximately 6:38 p.m., police received multiple reports of a reckless driver involved in collisions with other vehicles in the area. Utilizing their Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, officers identified the vehicle as stolen from Austin.
Upon locating the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee, continuing to drive dangerously before ultimately crashing. After the crash, he attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
A 13-year-old passenger was also taken into custody and later handed over to the appropriate juvenile authorities.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Charles Nichols from Austin, had several outstanding warrants from Comal County for serious offenses, including aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest with a vehicle, and endangering a child.
In addition to these warrants, Nichols has been charged with a range of offenses, including:
- Evading arrest with a vehicle
- Fraudulent possession or use of a credit or debit card
- Two counts of collision causing damage to vehicles
- Unauthorized use of a vehicle
- Evading arrest
- Unlawful carrying of a weapon
- Reckless driving
- Possession of a controlled substance
During the investigation, officers uncovered suspected drugs, a firearm, stolen bank cards, and burglary tools within the vehicle. Authorities believe that the evidence may link the car to additional criminal activities.
The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement continues to probe the circumstances surrounding this incident.
