The Austin Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying a suspect and a person of interest linked to a series of fraud cases targeting elderly victims, resulting in thefts exceeding $70,000.
The first incident occurred on February 23, when a woman visited multiple banks, impersonating a victim using stolen credit cards, bank account details, and a forged identification that featured the victim’s information alongside the suspect’s photo. During this fraudulent spree, the suspect managed to withdraw over $20,000 from various banks, including two Frost Bank branches located at 2425 Exposition Blvd. in Austin and 5656 Bee Caves Rd. in West Lake Hills. Authorities believe the victim’s wallet was pilfered from her purse while she was shopping.
In a second case, which took place on February 25 at Randalls on 5311 Balcones Drive, the same suspect, accompanied by a person of interest, stole a wallet from the victim’s purse while she was shopping. Following the theft, the duo proceeded to a Chase Bank, a Wells Fargo, and a Best Buy, ultimately stealing more than $50,000 from the victim.
The main suspect is described as a white woman in her early 60s to early 70s, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with medium-length grey hair and glasses. The person of interest is characterized as a white man in his 30s or 40s with a heavy build. The vehicle linked to the suspect is identified as a white Mazda SUV.

In light of these incidents, the Austin Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. They have provided several safety tips to help prevent becoming a victim:
- Always keep your purse securely strapped to yourself and positioned in the front, rather than on the side or back.
- Ensure that all zippers on your purse are fully closed.
- Avoid placing your purse on shopping carts; if necessary, secure it to the cart.
- Never lose sight of your purse or leave it unattended.
