In Houston, the police department operates under specific guidelines that endow officers with police authority throughout Harris County. This includes the enforcement of traffic laws, which may involve conducting traffic stops when deemed appropriate. The jurisdiction of these officers encompasses all areas within the school district’s boundaries as well as any property that is owned or controlled by the district, regardless of its location.
Officers in districts such as Katy ISD and Montgomery ISD have similar jurisdictional powers.
