Dallas Animal Services is calling upon the community for assistance after reaching a critical capacity this week. The shelter has taken in animals from three significant cruelty seizures, pushing its population well beyond the usual 80% capacity it aims to maintain.
Officials at the shelter express concern that the combination of recent rainfall and increasing temperatures may hinder adoptions during the summer months. They emphasize the importance of community involvement in alleviating the shelter’s overcrowding.
“Our shelter is beyond the population level that allows us to operate most effectively,” stated Victoria Chittam Bennett, Assistant Director of Dallas Animal Services. “Our staff and volunteers continue to provide compassionate care to every animal who comes through our doors, but we cannot do this alone. The community’s support is critical right now. Every adoption, every foster placement, every volunteer shift, and every pet reclaimed by its owner creates space and resources for another animal in need.”
