Dallas Man Could Face 30 Years in Prison for Sending Menacing Emails

A Dallas resident, Phillip Daniel Peterson, has been convicted by a federal jury on multiple counts for sending violent threats via email across state lines. The 56-year-old now faces a potential prison term of up to 30 years, with a maximum of five years for each of the six counts against him. A sentencing hearing is set for January 11.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced that Peterson was found guilty of transmitting threatening communications. Prosecutors revealed that the threatening emails were sent on June 23, 2023, to various individuals outside Texas, containing explicit threats of violence.

Among the messages that led to his conviction were statements such as: “M.M., I am going to f**k you up,” and “I am going to put your f**king head on a stick.” Other threats included graphic language directed at individuals, culminating in a chilling warning: “You stupid f**gots better know I know where you live.”

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould emphasized the seriousness of such threats, stating, “Today’s guilty verdict affirms that violent threats carry real consequences. Cyber-based threats are real threats, and those who misuse online communications to sow fear should expect meaningful federal consequences.” He expressed gratitude for the jury’s thorough deliberation and reaffirmed the commitment to safeguarding the public from those who exploit technology to instill fear.

Peterson’s sentencing is anticipated on January 11, where he could face significant prison time for his actions.
