Eloise Peck, affectionately known as Lulu, is remembered as a beacon of kindness and joy by her parents, Tim and Missy Peck. Tragically, she was one of the 27 campers who lost their lives during the catastrophic flooding at Camp Mystic in July 2025. In honor of their daughter’s compassionate spirit, the Pecks established the Living for Lulu Foundation, dedicated to supporting children and animals in need.
A Lasting Legacy
The Pecks chose the name Eloise for their daughter, loving its elegance, but quickly adopted the nickname Lulu, which they felt was a perfect fit. “When she arrived, we knew she was definitely Lulu,” Missy recalled fondly.
A Heart of Gold
From a young age, Eloise exhibited remarkable empathy, often reaching out to children who felt isolated. Missy recounted a touching story about a boy with autism, whose parents shared that Eloise was his sole friend. “She would come home and talk about him with such excitement,” Missy said, highlighting Lulu’s inclusive nature and her ability to bring joy to those around her.
The Day of Tragedy
On the fateful night of July 4, 2025, floodwaters surged through Camp Mystic, claiming the lives of 27 girls, including Lulu. In the aftermath, the Pecks faced the horror of receiving calls claiming Lulu was alive, only to be asked for money. “It added another horrific element, and we still get those calls,” Missy shared, reflecting on the ongoing pain stemming from the tragedy.
Honoring Her Memory
While the public attention surrounding the incident has been challenging, Tim and Missy find solace in their private memories. Tim described walking up the stairs to Lulu’s room, filled with reminders of her life, including a note from her future camp counselor that still sits on her desk. “It’s a constant reminder, but we’re trying to cherish those moments,” he said.
A Joyful Final Night
On her last night, Lulu was surrounded by laughter and love, enjoying a dance party with her closest friends. This memory reinforces the Pecks’ commitment to preserving her legacy through the Living for Lulu Foundation, which embodies her love for both friends and animals, especially dogs.
Continuing the Mission
The foundation not only provides assistance to those in need but also serves as a tribute to Lulu’s spirit. Her school has established a learning garden in her honor, a place where her memory continues to thrive. “Not a day goes by without me seeing or hearing something that reminds me of her,” Missy expressed. “It gives me such strength, knowing that others see it too. It’s truly amazing.”
