AUSTIN, Texas – As the year comes to a close, Austin is gearing up for its vibrant New Year’s celebration, “Austin’s New Year,” taking place at Auditorium Shores on December 31st.
The event is organized by the City of Austin in collaboration with Visit Austin and promises a festive atmosphere complete with a spectacular midnight fireworks display. Attendees can also enjoy a diverse selection of local food and beverage vendors, featuring popular names like Amy’s Ice Cream, Chi’Lantro BBQ, Garbo’s Lobster, and Arepa World.
Musical entertainment will be provided by notable artists, including The Head and the Heart, Chaparelle, Tameca Jones, and The Point. Additionally, CNN will broadcast live from the event as part of its “New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen” programming.
Event Schedule
Gates will open at 7 p.m., coinciding with the start of live musical performances that will continue until 11:45 p.m. At that time, guests can look forward to Austin’s New Year Drone Show, presented by Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. The countdown to 2026 will begin at 11:55 p.m., culminating in the highly anticipated fireworks display at midnight.
What to Know Before You Go
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for comfort. Please note that pets, apart from trained service animals, are not permitted. For security purposes, there will be designated entrances at the east and west ends of the park, and all guests along with their belongings will undergo a search upon entry.
Officials remind visitors to adhere to the Leave No Trace principles. This includes proper waste disposal and consideration for fellow attendees. It is also important to remember that outside alcohol, glass containers, fireworks, and sparklers are prohibited at Auditorium Shores. Transportation and Road Closures
As the event draws near, city officials have announced several road closures to accommodate the festivities. Specifically, West Riverside Drive will be closed from South 1st Street to Lee Barton Drive starting at 6 p.m. on December 31st until 1 a.m. on January 1st. South 1st Street from West Cesar Chavez to Barton Springs and West Riverside Drive from Barton Springs to South 1st Street will close from 9:30 p.m. until 11 a.m. on January 1st.
For safety reasons, Lady Bird Lake will also be off-limits to watercraft from 10:30 p.m. on December 31st until 1 a.m. on January 1st. Attendees should anticipate heavy traffic congestion in and around the downtown area, as well as on South Lamar Boulevard, Barton Springs Road, and Riverside Drive.
Parking options include public lots north of Lady Bird Lake, the One Texas Center, Palmer Events Center Garage, RiverSouth Garage at Riverside Drive and South First Street, and City Hall Garage. ADA-accessible parking will be available at both the Palmer Event Center Garage and One Texas Center.

Officials recommend that attendees remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1. Given the potential for cold weather, it’s advisable to dress appropriately. Visitors should stay with their group and establish a pre-planned meeting spot in case of separation. Additionally, everyone is encouraged to be mindful of pedestrians, scooter riders, and cyclists while navigating the area. It’s also wise to keep mobile phones charged and plan for a safe return home after the celebrations.
