A former detention officer in Harris County, Stevie Mosley, has received a four-year probation sentence after being found guilty of selling vehicles she did not own through Facebook Marketplace. At 23 years old, Mosley will avoid incarceration for her actions, which were executed while she posed as a law enforcement officer.
The background of the case reveals that Mosley resigned from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in April 2025 amid an internal investigation concerning her inappropriate interactions with an inmate. This inmate, Denise Johnson, who has a criminal record, was later identified as Mosley’s alleged accomplice. Following her resignation, Mosley neglected to return her sheriff’s uniform, which she then exploited to commit fraud.
Victims of her scheme have expressed their discontent regarding the light sentence. One victim, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted how Mosley used her uniform and a legitimate badge to instill trust, convincing them to purchase a rented 2022 Lexus. “She came out in uniform flashing a real badge,” the victim shared, detailing how Mosley presented herself as an officer while making the sale.
According to a local car dealership owner, Mosley provided all necessary documentation and made a down payment on the vehicle, only to vanish afterward, leaving the dealership and the victims in disbelief. The dealership owner lamented that Mosley’s probation did not serve justice for the victims or the car industry, stating, “What does it say to everybody else that you’re not going to spend any time behind bars? That’s not justice on either side at all.”
Another victim echoed this sentiment, insisting that Mosley deserved a harsher punishment for her actions. If Mosley successfully fulfills the terms of her probation, she may avoid a formal conviction on her record.
