Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are currently conducting a search at a facility that operates as the election hub for Fulton County, Georgia. This action is part of a court-authorized law enforcement operation taking place at the Fulton County Elections Hub & Operations Center, located at 5600 Campbellton Fairburn Road.
The FBI confirmed the execution of the search but did not disclose specific details regarding the focus of their investigation, stating only that it is ongoing. Meanwhile, a representative from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation clarified that their agency is not participating in this operation.
According to Fulton County spokesperson Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez, the search is concentrating on records associated with the 2020 election, although she refrained from providing further details.
Witnesses observed FBI agents in camouflage vests entering and exiting the warehouse. Democratic state Senator Josh McLarin, present at the scene, reported that an FBI evidence retrieval team was seen loading approximately 700 boxes of ballots into trucks parked nearby. He expressed concerns about the potential fate of these ballots following their removal from the center, stating, “If they are able to modify the contents of these ballots, then there is really no way to find out what happened in 2020.”
Fulton County’s Election Operations Under Scrutiny
The scrutiny of Fulton County’s election operations has heightened in the wake of former President Donald Trump’s persistent criticism of the state, which was pivotal in the 2020 election outcome. Trump famously urged Georgia’s then-secretary of state to “find” votes to overturn the election results.
In 2025, the U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections and Clerk of Courts Che Alexander, alleging non-compliance with a subpoena that requested access to critical election materials from the 2020 General Election. In response, Fulton County sought to have the lawsuit dismissed on January 20, 2026. It remains uncertain whether this legal action is related to the current search.
In May 2024, Georgia’s State Election Board reviewed a case regarding alleged missing documentation for thousands of votes during the recount of the 2020 presidential election. Following a detailed presentation and discussions, the board voted to reprimand Fulton County for its management of the election. Shortly thereafter, a conservative majority on the board aimed to revisit the case, despite objections from the sole Democrat and the chair, who cited previous findings that, while the county’s election management was flawed, there was no evidence of intentional misconduct.
