A Fort Worth woman and her mother are recovering after being shot by the woman’s ex-boyfriend during a violent ambush inside their home. The attack, which occurred last month, was witnessed by the victim’s three young children, who fortunately were not physically harmed, but continue to experience emotional distress. The unborn child of the victim also survived the ordeal.
The incident took place on November 19, when 32-year-old Sylvia Scott and her mother, Allura Stewart, were targeted in their residence located on Beechgrove Terrace. Both women are employed by Crowley Independent School District, according to family members.
Sylvia Scott suffered serious injuries from the shooting, with a bullet striking her neck and exiting through her face, resulting in lasting damage that has affected her ability to speak and eat. Meanwhile, her children, aged 8, 4, and 3, witnessed the traumatic event and are reportedly struggling with nightmares related to the incident.
Fort Worth police reported that Christopher Mike, Scott’s former boyfriend, entered the home through a back door and concealed himself inside prior to the attack. As Scott, her mother, and the children opened the garage door, Mike ambushed them.
Allura Stewart recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “He just appeared out of nowhere and shot her and looked at me and shot me.” In a state of panic, she feared for the safety of the children as Mike fled deeper into the house.
After being shot, Sylvia Scott managed to crawl to her car and call 911. Remarkably, her unborn baby is safe following the incident.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Scott had ended her relationship with Mike and noted a concerning escalation in his violent behavior as she attempted to prompt him to leave their shared home. “There were a number of events that happened before this one,” she explained.
Feeling unsafe, Scott has since relocated and expressed concerns that Mike may have been tracking her movements through an iPad he had left at her house, as she received a notification on her phone prior to the attack. “I don’t feel at ease,” she stated.
Christopher Mike was arrested and faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and kidnapping. At this time, jail records have not been made available to confirm whether he has retained legal representation.
