Generous Donor Contributes $3,000 to Fort Bend Animal Shelter to Support Local Animals

A generous donation of $3,000 has been made to Fort Bend County Animal Services by a local resident, Randy Hartley, who was inspired by the adoption of a senior cat from the shelter. The funds will benefit the shelter’s non-profit organization, Fort Bend Paws, which is dedicated to providing essential supplies, including medicine, for animals that may not receive adequate support through regular tax funding.

Randy’s connection to the shelter began a year ago when he encountered an orange tabby named Garf, who was 14 years old at the time. Captivated by Garf’s charm, Randy returned the following day to adopt him. Unfortunately, after a brief period of happiness together, Garf fell ill and passed away, leaving Randy heartbroken. “I couldn’t get him out of my mind,” he recalled, expressing the profound bond he felt with the feline companion. “I cried for a week. I loved that cat so much.”

In memory of Garf, Randy decided to contribute $3,000 to the shelter, hoping to encourage others to consider adopting senior pets. Both Randy and the shelter’s director, Rene Vasquez, advocate for the adoption of older animals, emphasizing the joy and companionship they can bring to families during their twilight years.

The funds donated will significantly aid the shelter in procuring much-needed supplies for its residents, ensuring that the animals receive care that goes beyond what is covered by governmental resources. This initiative not only supports the welfare of the shelter animals but also fosters a community spirit of compassion and responsibility toward those in need.
