A Harris County deputy is currently under investigation following allegations from a woman who claims he raped her and took cash from her fiancé during a 911 response. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the deputy has been temporarily reassigned to administrative duties while the investigation is ongoing.
The incident in question involves a couple, Avery Daniel and her fiancé, Demichael Lawrence, both from Dallas, who were staying at a Comfort Inn on FM 1960 West for a weekend getaway. According to reports, on November 18, a dispute between the couple prompted someone to call emergency services.
Avery recounted her experience, stating, “I was obviously emotional. I stated nothing happened. I wasn’t physically hurt. He stated he’d seen stuff like this before, that I was covering up the truth, so he forced me to go to the hospital by ambulance.” She further claimed that the deputy entered her hospital room, provided her with a piece of paper containing his phone number, and handed her $200, during which he allegedly groped her.
According to Avery, the deputy then drove her back to the motel, forced his way into her room, and proceeded to rape her. In a subsequent text message, the deputy purportedly acknowledged that the $200 he gave to Avery was taken from her fiancé, who had been arrested and charged with assaulting a family member. In this message, he wrote, “I felt bad that he had so much money, and you didn’t have any, so I took that for you. Please keep it between us OK, LOL.”
Avery disclosed that her fiancé had $5,000, although Lawrence’s attorney reported that the deputy claimed the amount was only $1,600. She also mentioned reviewing the deputy’s bodycam footage, stating, “There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t add up.” This bodycam footage has since been submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review.
This ongoing case has drawn significant attention, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the serious allegations against the deputy.
