Heroic Neighbor Defends Woman, Kills Machete Wielding Attacker in Fort Worth

A fatal shooting occurred in northwest Fort Worth late at night, bringing a violent attack on a woman to a sudden halt.

Authorities reported that a neighbor fatally shot a man who was allegedly assaulting a woman with a machete on Ross Avenue. The neighbor intervened after hearing the woman’s cries for help and opened fire when the armed individual approached him. Currently, no arrests have been made, and the identities of those involved have not been disclosed.

The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. in a neighborhood located south of Meacham Airport. Witnesses recounted an argument between a man and a woman, during which the man was seen wielding a machete and dragging the woman down the street.

As the woman screamed for assistance, a neighbor exited his home in an attempt to defuse the situation. Police believe that the machete-wielding man then approached the neighbor, prompting the neighbor to discharge his weapon. The man sustained injuries and later succumbed at a local hospital.

The neighbor remained at the scene to provide information to investigators. At this stage, police have not made any arrests.

Residents in the area shared insights about the deceased, referring to him as “The Squatter.” They indicated that he had been living in a makeshift setup behind a home, often scaling the fence to access his spot. Nicole Flores, a local resident, voiced concerns about the man’s presence, stating, “He shouldn’t be there. We’re trying to keep the neighborhood nice.” She lamented the influx of homeless individuals and drug users associated with the man.

Residents expressed that they had previously reported the man to law enforcement, but no action was taken. Angie Gonzales described the man as a persistent nuisance in the community. She also emphasized that the neighbor who shot the machete-wielding man is a “good man,” expressing concern for his family and the traumatic experience they may have witnessed.
