The family of Ivan Ramirez, a beloved Pasadena softball coach, is finding solace in both the courtroom and on the field nearly two years after a tragic incident that claimed his life. The juvenile responsible for the fatal shooting during a car theft on Easter Sunday 2024 has accepted a plea deal, resulting in a 10-year prison sentence.
Ivan Ramirez, who was a prominent figure in the local sports community, was fatally shot while trying to prevent his vehicle from being stolen. The 15-year-old suspect, arrested in June 2024, accepted the plea deal on February 5. Due to the defendant’s minor status, specific details about the case have not been disclosed to the public by the District Attorney’s office.
Continuing a Legacy
While the legal proceedings may have concluded, the Ramirez family is dedicated to preserving Ivan’s legacy in the world of softball and baseball. His eldest son, Manny Ramirez, has stepped up to manage his father’s organization after an injury curtailed his own collegiate playing career. Now recognized as one of Texas’s leading hitting instructors, Manny operates out of a facility in downtown Houston and trains over 50 athletes, including both students and professionals.
Ivan’s youngest child, Ivanney, is also making her mark in sports. Currently a junior at Ursuline College, she plays as the starting second baseman for her college softball team. All three of Ivan’s children have deep roots in the sport, a passion that reflects their father’s lifelong commitment to coaching and mentoring young athletes.
